Hebrews 1 Commentary

Please choose a passage

The law and the prophets came to their peak in Christ. Christ is God’s Son and the heir of all things.

Christ is the exact representation of God and all things exist because of Christ. He is seated at the right hand of God and is greater than the angels.

Hebrews 1:5 meaning

The Son is greater than the angels because God has made Him the heir of all things.

The Son is greater than the angels because the angels have been commanded to worship Him and they serve Him.

Still contrasting the Son with the angels, this verse talks about Christ’s throne lasting forever and God anointing Christ above everything.

The Lord created the earth and the heavens, they will perish but the Lord is the same.

God has never told the angels to sit at His right hand or told them He will make their enemies a footstool. Angels are made to do what God commands to help believers.

This first chapter of Hebrews begins by focusing on the surpassing greatness of Jesus, His inheritance reward as the Son, and the amazing opportunity we have to share in His inheritance reward. This chapter begins to explain that Jesus is greater than the law, the prophets, and angels. Jesus is greater than the law and the prophets because He came to fulfill the law and the prophecies. Jesus is also greater than the angels because they serve God and do as He commands, but Jesus sits at the right hand of God and His kingdom is forever.
