Please choose a passage in Revelation 13
The dragon gives power to the beast who appears to be the same figure as “the prince who is to come” spoken of in Daniel 9:26. He will be a ruler that openly wars against the people of God and the Lamb.
Satan has been thrown down to earth, and now focuses his efforts on earth. He is authorized to reign over the earth. He uses the power given him to impose upon all to worship him. He makes war on the only ones that resist him, who are the saints written in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain. Believers are called to persevere, trusting in God’s judgment of those who persecute them.
Power is given to the second beast, the false prophet. He performs great signs that deceive the world into worshipping the beast. He also leads the world to make an image to the beast that speaks and kills people that will not worship it.
The beast increases his persecution through disallowing any who do not take his mark from participating in the world economic system. We are told the number of the beast: six hundred and sixty-six.
The dragon, Satan, gives power to the beast who appears to be the same figure as “the prince who is to come” spoken of in Daniel 9:26. He will be a ruler that openly wars against the people of God and the Lamb. He will have the combined advantages of past empires of the earth: the might of Babylon, the dominion of Persia, the speed of Greece, and the brutality of Rome. He is the ultimate, final tyrant over the world, comparable to a composite of all previous superpowers.
Because Satan has been thrown out of heaven and confined to earth, he now focuses his efforts on earth. He is authorized to reign over the earth for a time which he knows to be limited. He uses the power given him to impose upon all to worship him. His representative, the beast, will have suffered an injury which would seem to have killed him, but in a parody of Christ’s own resurrection, this beast will be shown to be alive. It will seem to humankind that this ruler cannot be killed, which will motivate fear and awe and submission. All the while, this beast will slander God and the people of God.
Satan and his beast will make war on the only ones who resist him, who are the saints written in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain. Believers are called to persevere, trusting in God’s judgment of those who persecute them. Though Satan’s forces will be unstoppable as they capture and kill the faithful, it is promised that they will ultimately be punished by God in the same manner as they persecuted God’s people.
A second beast emerges: the false prophet. He is given power as the servant of the first beast and of Satan. The false prophet will appear like an innocent lamb, but will speak with the voice of a dragon-his master, Satan. He may be a religious leader who unites the world in worship of the beast. The false prophet will perform great signs, like calling fire down from heaven, that deceive the world into worshipping the beast. The beast’s seeming resurrection will be the core sign that deceives the world-a mockery of Jesus’s resurrection. The false prophet will lead the world to construct a statue honoring the beast. It will be a statue that speaks and kills people that will not worship it.
The beast increases his persecution. He enforces an economic system on the world that allows only those who physically bear his “mark” to sell and buy. People who do not have the mark will be banned from purchasing or selling goods. The mark or number of the beast is six hundred and sixty-six.
